1) Cut the amount of clay for a plate und roll it out evenly e. g. with a kitchen roll to a layer of approx. 8mm thickness.

TIP: It can be very simply and perfectly done with spacer bars (see photo).

2) Place the doily or crocheted cover carefully on the clay. Then press the cover's structure with hands or the kitchen roll – slowly – into the clay slab and cut/detach the outline of the cover with a knife.

3) Remove the cover carefully in order to create the relief. Now place the plate in a fitting mould and let it dry. Take care you center the slab well in order to have an even and balanced plate result at the end.

4) When the plate has dried well (e. g. over night), take it out of the mould and start biscuit firing at min. 950°C.

5) After biscuit firing let the object cool first, then water it thoroughly (e. g. in a water basin), so the colour can absorb perfectly into the relief. Therefore apply/dab BOTZ Unidekor 4021 straight on the structured plate border in still wet clay condition.

6) Let dry the Unidekor colour shortly, then wipe free the structure's surface with a damp cloth, so that the colour remains in the furrows.

7) Let dry the colour. Then apply BOTZ 9352 Craquelé tourquoise on the plate border 1-2x – also cover the Unidekor coloured relief – in the middle of teh plate glaze three times. Take care you bring on the colour well especially on the border's indentations.

8) On the backside glaze the border only and leave free a spacious area in the middle: BOTZ 9352 tends to run strongly and thus shows certain stains.

9) Then off to glaze firing at 1050°C into the kiln. Let it dry and ready to go: a striking plate with impressive depth-effects…!
